In the 1800s, Decorah was a hot spot for Norwegian settlers, who were said to have chosen the area because the hills and forests reminded them of Norway. Today, the Norway-like terrain remains, as does the city's population of people with Norwegian ancestry. Each year, the Nordic Fest celebrates Scandinavian culture through dance, food, and music.
